New York City winter, New York City rooftoop part ii: The super's revenge

The next day the building's superintendent and a helper showed up and turned off the water. They went up on the roof to see what was what.

One with a hammer, the other with a pole, they started in on the ice and soon a winter wonderland was a wreck.

My first thoughts were to condemn their actions as vandalism, for why would someone confronted by the unusual beauty of that frozen patio-scape feel a need to smash and crush?

Then I saw what they left behind and it was different but also beautiful. They were naive artists, creating an ice sculpture out of an ice cave, and they didn't even know it.
