Photos of "Music With a View 2011" - Part 1 of 3 at The Flea Theater, NYC

The photos in this and the next two entries are long overdue and to anyone who might have been hoping to see them sooner, I apologize. I'm not a professional photographer, and life sometimes gets in the way of even my most beloved avocation.

I hope what you see here makes up for the delay, and that they give some pleasure to the viewer even if it is impossible for them to convey the sounds that surrounded me during the performances by these talented musicians.

Kathleen Supové, an excellent pianist, an advocate through action of new music, curates a festival of music and media, and discussion at The Flea Theater on White Street, in lower Manhattan. It's a small venue, so the audience is never far from the artists, and when the performances are done, the creators of what we've just seen and heard, guided by a moderator from the contemporary music scene, talk about what they do. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so good, but sometimes it's so amazingly great that not getting to one of the shows leaves me wondering about what I've missed.

This year, I made it to three shows, on March 25, 26 and April 1, 2001. I'm not a musician, I'm not a video artist, I'm the audience, and I'm grateful that Kathy, The Flea and the creators allow me to shoot these photos.
