Tuesday - A still ailing Trump checks himself out of the hospital

I know, it's Tuesday already. I haven’t posted for a few days. I’m working through the absolute insanity around me. This country of mine, never the most rational of republics, is now something closer to an hospital for the mentally ill. We have become both a danger to ourselves and to others, with violent tendencies. All of this is reason to put us on locked wards and possibly in restraints, as well. There is a spiraling sense of unreality and as it grows and grows, the emotional state become one in which violence, even if neither justified or desired, suddenly erupts. The President refuses to acknowledge that there is anything wrong his adherents, even as they threaten civil war. He even goads them on. Death threats against public figures, whether credible or not, multiply on all sides of the political spectrum and the previously sublimated prejudices against the other - no matter what that other might be: Jews, Chinese, Hindus, Moslems, People of Color, LatinXs, LGBTQ, intellectuals, yahoos, whatever, are now openly and viciously expressed with overt threats of violence.

And though I wish to think this is not the country I grew up in, that is not true. The films of violence against “the other” since the invention of movies, photographs of picnickers at lynchings, the violence against strikers, the pitting of class against class, ethnic groups against each other, the ethnic cleansing of the Native American, is deeply etched in the ethos of America, and that we, the people, have denied it, or turned our eyes away from it, or accepted it as the way things have always been, doesn’t lessen the evil.

Loving America doesn’t mean you have to love what is wrong with our country. Loving America should mean struggling to do right thing going forward and where it is possible, make amends for the wrongs that were done.

This lovely thought is the opposite of where we seem to be going. The threats, the blows exchanged, people murdered because they are demonstrating - yes that youth who came to Kenosha with a rifle and intentions of using it is a murderer - and demonstrators vandalizing and looting. This is all unjustifiable and it is part of an ugly feedback loop.

And President Doofus Donald Trump takes heart from the anarchy he is sowing, and pushes his agenda with the lie that he is for law and order. He is about as disorderly as a leader can be, the wrong man, the wrong time, and getting him out of office should be the work we do over the next four weeks.

That he got sick and now denies the seriousness of the illness, one which has killed more than 200,000 Americans, is sickening.

He says he's going to win. I believe he's wrong and I'm willing to work for this end.

Unelect Trump.

Biden for President 2020.

Now a few photos. First a couple of Mama Jo and Tutul, the person who works with her. Then one of the cart as viewed from the west.

And finally, a suite of photos of the ongoing deconstruction of the block from Madison to Park Avenues, E. 47 to E. 48th Streets.
