Sunday - a perfect day for a walk across the Hudson

This morning was a perfect day for a walk in the sun. The sky was brilliant blue, the temperatures were moderate, and we were in a great mood. We got up early and drove to Poughkeepsie where a former railroad trestle, long abandoned after a fire, was converted into the Walkway Across the Hudson. As its name implies, it crosses the river without motorized traffic, and it is also a bikeway. This was not our first walk across but it's been several years and the first time since my knee surgery.

The views are spectacular. If there's a downside it is only its popularity. On this Sunday morning there was a lot of foot and bicycle traffic, too many pedestrians mall walking, too many of the cyclists going too fast for the traffic conditions. I didn't see any accidents but there were some close calls.

There are signs posted requiring face coverings but I'd say only about 1/3 of the people were using them. I don't think it was a problem because we were outside, there was still sufficient space most of the time to maintain a safe distance and there was a pleasant breeze. Put the same number of people in an enclosed space and I am sure there'd have been a hot spot of Covid-19.

I'll post some pictures.

I think the Democrats need to attack Trump and the Republicans on the very issue that Trump thinks is his: law and order. Hammer away at the simple and obvious fact that the demonstrations are happening while Trump is president, that he can't do anything to stop them and when he's tried, he's made it worse, as in Portland, and that everything he says about law and order, and everything he says and does regarding issues of race and racism only make things worse and inspire more demonstrations. And then add into this the weak leadership he's shown through his four years, his wishy washy reaction to right wing violence and lobbying and the 200000 people who died because his leadership during the pandemic was about as bad as it could be.

Sure, we can keep talking about his character, but show how his character makes for a total failure in a leader. That is enough.

Now some photos from the Walkway and on the Walkway but not of the Walkway Across the Hudson.
