Wednesday but posted Thursday - Met up with Ron Kolm. Doofus Donald is stuck in a revolving door.

This entry should have been published yesterday but I got home a bit later than usual and I had a commitment to address postcards for a local candidate’s campaign. Pete Harkham is running for re-election in NY State’s 92 Senate district. He’s a good man and he’s done an excellent job representing us, and has been more involved in the community than any NY State Senator in my district than I can remember. He deserves to be re-elected.

His opponent is trying to portray himself as a moderate Republican, but his entire political career he’s been a part of the Repulsive rightwing of the Republicans. He showed incredible irresponsibility toward the county’s finances when he was County Executive and he was soundly defeated the last time he ran. Since then he’s been a vocal sock puppet for Doofus Donald Trump, spreading that bile as a commentator on tv.

Re-elect Harkham.

I met up on Wednesday afternoon with my friend, the poet, novelist and editor Ron Kolm. He’s busy putting together an anthology of work by members of Brevets, Brevets is a web site and journal of short poetry - 14 lines or less. The group of poets who contribute
originally envisioned it as a workshop but there is less of that then a mix of snarky criticism and fulsome praise. As should be expected, the quality of the work is all over the spectrum, and the subjects covered in short verse as diverse as the poets who contribute.

Ron is also working on the next Unbearables anthology, which has been delayed by the pandemic. Because of the state of the nation under the erratic and dangerous non-leadership of Doofus Donald Trump, the anthology is planning on being more political in its content than previous anthologies. I should be working up a piece for it.

There are times when I find the things the President, Doofus Donald Trump says so outrageous I can only shake my head and wonder what is wrong with that man. After Dr. Redfield, the head of the CDC, testified that there probably won’t be a vaccine ready and generally available until sometime in 2021, and that masks are even more important than the vaccine to control the pandemic, Trump again proves he’s got boogers for brains, stating the exact opposite, that there will be a vaccine before the election and that masks aren’t really very effective.

This follows rapidly on the heels of Michael Caputo’s batshit crazy rant on Facebook, claiming among other things that the CDC is a nest of Anti-Trump feeling, and that those who are against the President are plotting in every way to bring him down. And, he asserted there is a violent armed thread from the left that will rise up when Trump is re-elected.  Caputo was probably made to see the error of his ways and has apologied to his boss at HHS and taken a leave of absence until the end of the year.

The right and the left are both home to some harebrained ideas but the right has the lead when it comes to paranoia and believing in very insane conspiracies. I have come to believe that they are the source of these conspiracies and looking in the mirror, believe that what they are is what everyone is, so the left must be as batshit crazy as them.

But we need to be careful and not discount their insanity, because it could lead to some violence as both individuals already on the knife-edge of insanity and groups of them, go over the edge and propagate violence against those they consider their enemies.

And this is enabled by and even encouraged by Doofus Donald Trump, who is himself unhinged.

Be careful, and be smart. Vote for Biden in 2020 and dump the Trump.

I took these photos of the poet Jennifer Juneau at the Sidewalk Cafe before it shut down for renovation. There are multiple versions of each.
