It was a hot and muggy day, very typical for summer in this area of the country. Many years ago I read a novel, "V"' by Thomas Pynchon and in it he spent more than a couple of pages talking about the dog days of summer and their affect on people in NYC, and his characters in particular. Those pages have stayed with me across more than half a century and days like today, I remember them. I know that Pynchon's novels are not for everyone, but from my first encounter with them in high school, they offered me an alternate way of looking at how the world works, and being able to step aside and see the world for another person's point of view is usually a good thing.
I got out for a walk this morning before the heat built up, and then stayed in the shade or indoors, avoiding the worst of it. Those years in the seventies and eighties when I worked in places in NYC that lacked air-conditioning and were at best poorly ventilated, taught me to handle this weather with equanimity. Had it gotten too uncomfortable, I would have retreated to an air-conditioned room.
There is an short and very interesting article in Politico today in which sTrump'et's intelligence briefer describes how she deals with her "customer." The full article is here: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/06/trump-intelligence-briefer-breaks-silence-349936 but quoting from the article there is this telling s sTrumpet who will not to hear certain things,
Trump wasn’t told, at least orally, about the Russia bounty
intelligence—Trump’s singular resistance to hearing anything negative
about Russia has led even his most senior Cabinet officials to tiptoe
around issues related to the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin, former
officials have said.
That his advisors "tiptoe around" these issues also condemns them as yes-folk, toadies, brown nosers and precisely the type of people who should not be kept around someone who has to make important decisions and needs to know the details.
Again we learn that the administration covered up the reason for the a-hole-in-chief not getting a verbal briefing on the topic of bounties paid by Russia to the Taliban for killing Americans: they said the report was unverified. But it was in the written briefing. Hmm, also telling. We learned from another source that indeed, the sTrump'et is not illiterate, he just doesn't like to read.
Along the same lines, regarding magical thinking and ostriches with their heads in the sand: according to the a-hole-in-chief, if we stop testing then the virus will go away. Yeah? Really? Doofus Donald, do you really believe that? Maybe if we clap our heels together three times and turn around, a fairy godmother will come and make us all wealthy, too.
This isn't how the world works. There's a hoaxer in the White House and we need to get him out. Unelect Trump.
A leader who only listens to what he wants to believe, and tunes out reality, is truly frightening.
This year we have a chance to do something about it: UNELECT Trump.
I'll say it again: Unelect Trump.
Photos tonight are from about a year ago. It was also a hot afternoon, but I was able to walk around the city.

I don't believe they didn't tell him. It's just the only excuse they could come up with! Love the photo of the ladies in orange and white....
