Saturday - Too nice a day to rant or be pissed off.

Around here it is noticeable that we are still emerging from the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 virus: retail is only semi-open, restaurants are not seating and serving indoors, curbside service and pickup are bywords for retail and food service activity, people are mostly wearing masks and always wearing them in open business, such as supermarkets. The Pleasantville Farmers' Market was very busy this morning and still operating in a manner to minimize the risk of spreading the illness - masks, six foot marked spaces for people waiting, the customers acting in a responsible, adult manner. The vendors are picking the food for the customer, minimizing contact. But there is a more relaxed feeling, as masked neighbors chat and shop without the tension of just a few weeks ago. There are very few active cases in our area now and we are quickly moving toward more reopenings next week.

The politics of the current government make me scratch my head. I don't understand what it benefits anyone to limit some people's civil rights while trying to enhance that of others. This is not a zero sum game. Making it harder for transexual people to live an orderly life with access to medical care, civic functions and such makes no sense. It hurts nobody to treat them right, and it is hurtful to many when they are mistreated, as this administration is seeking to do. On the other side of this equation, enhancing the rights of religious groups in general doesn't benefit society as a whole because it is enabling bigotry on their part.

This is something I will contemplate and try to write more on at a later time.

Tonight's photos are a miscellany that include street scenes, street portraits and food service people.
