Thursday - A day full of summer rain

Today is the last day of the third month since my social isolation began. On the radio I heard a conversation about Nathaniel West's second book, a short novel called "Miss Lonelyhearts," which was written during the Great Depression, depicting a level of despair and desperation that the two men discussing it compared to the isolation and loneliness felt by many now. It's been many years since I read the book so my memory of it combined a sharp impression of liking it very much without having a lot of details to explain why.

It was a dreary news day, with Trump, in his echo chamber, celebrating the wrong while condemning the left, and since for him anyone or thing to the left of Mussolini is a socialist, that's a lot of people. He often acts like a fourth grader, resorting to name calling when he doesn't have anything of substance to add to a discussion in which he finds nothing to agree with. It's very, very sad. You'd hope a man of his advanced age would've grown up by now, but nope, he keeps showing us his pre-adolescent side.

The photos I'm posting were taken from the porch of the Thomas Cole Cottage in Catskill, New York. If you don't know, Thomas Cole was an artist, the founder of what came to be known as The Hudson River School. His home looked across the western Hudson Valley toward Catskill Mountain, and it was the Catskills that was a beloved subject of many of the Hudson River School painters.

It was in the afternoon and the sky was changing rapidly.
