Tuesday - lovely day if only we weren't still on pause.

Today's entry is dedicated to the miracle of memory.

One of the things I do is read the obituaries. I am told by some that this is a morbid habit but I disagree. The obits are nothing more than mini-biographies, brief lives of people recently deceased who did something, even it wasn't a big something ,that made it worth noting their passing with the scant facts of their origins, their survivors and those things that were worth noting and worth putting into the record for posterity.

I don't take pleasure in the passing of these people, I take pleasure in learning about their lives. And occasionally I even recognize a person I didn't know well, but had a chance to meet in passing.

That happened today.  NYTimes.com gave notice of the passing of Frances Goldin, a woman of valor who worked hard to keep her community alive and vibrant. As it happened, I was at a reading at the now defunct Saint Marks Bookshop in February 2013 and she was there to speak about the author/compiler of the book and about the community organizing work she did. I was there to take photographs as well as listen to the readers and speakers.

The amazing thing is that I saw her photo in the paper and I said to myself, "I've photographed her!" Even more amazing, I was able to find the photos.

Here are a bunch of them.
